Spiritual Blindness

Most of life is just focusing on what is ahead of you. What you are going to do that day, that week, or even plans that you have for the year. But in looking ahead are we missing things that are right in front of us, and could that actually be dangerous for us as Christians?

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.

Ephesians 6:12 NASB

We all know as Christians that we battle in the spirit and we fight against the powers in the spiritual realm, but how often are we actually seeing the battle? Really stop and think about how this battle is being fought and where is it taking place. This battle is a culture war, it is a war against those who promote God and those who desire to glorify Satan. In essence it is a battle of propaganda.

Now look around and start looking for all the media and information out there that promotes ungodliness. And in doing this you can see the war. Even the beginning of this war was started through propaganda, the lie in the garden. So we as Christians should start looking around and seeing how we might be influenced by our surroundings.

‘Cursed is the man who makes an idol or a molten image, an abomination to the Lord , the work of the hands of the craftsman, and sets it up in secret.’ And all the people shall answer and say, ‘Amen.’

Deuteronomy 27:15 NASB

It is important to understand that from the beginning the Lord has told us that we should be paying attention to all the things around us, so that we don’t bring the evil into our lives. And this evil that we face goes beyond just propaganda, but also the growth of the kingdom of satan. The kingdom of satan is all about oppressing people and leading them away from the truth. And one of satan’s biggest tools is false religion and witchcraft or magic. And we know that it is unacceptable for us as Christians to partake in that activity because it isn’t just made up rituals, but has real concequences in terms of demonic oppression.

 It happened that as we were going to the place of prayer, a slave-girl having a spirit of divination met us, who was bringing her masters much profit by fortune-telling. Following after Paul and us, she kept crying out, saying, “These men are bond-servants of the Most High God, who are proclaiming to you the way of salvation.” She continued doing this for many days. But Paul was greatly annoyed, and turned and said to the spirit, “I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her!” And it came out at that very moment.

Acts 16:16‭-‬18 NASB

In the book of Acts we can see that there is a child that is possessed with a spirit of divination. This spirit is demonic and is cast out by Paul. Divination such as tarot cards, palm readers, and crystal balls are all associated with magic and the occult. We see biblical evidence here that divination is demonic in origin. So I would say that Christians should be aware and on the alert so that they don’t get involved with any demonic activity.

So the answer to fighting this culture war is to see and call out all that is evil. If you are watching something that promotes degeneracy, any form of magic, or any false religion think about what you are watching and how you might be supporting that propaganda. As the early Christians did in Acts, we are called to burn down that propaganda of the enemy and live for Christ.

And many of those who practiced magic brought their books together and began burning them in the sight of everyone; and they counted up the price of them and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.

Acts 19:19 NASB
