Are we supposed to have a Teacher as Christians?

I know what you are thinking, are you seriously asking if we should have a teacher? That is how the world works, in everything from school to work to hobbies. You always have a teacher. Whether it is some writing or video, there is a teacher behind it. And yes I would say that we should have a teacher, but it isn’t the one you think.

Our Teacher is the Holy Spirit. And bottom line He is the only one we should be calling teacher, just as Jesus said.

But do not be called Rabbi; for One is your Teacher, and you are all brothers.

Matthew 23:8 NASB

So yes, it is okay to read people’s books and learn from them. It is okay to sit and listen to your pastor’s sermon. But remember, they are not your true teacher. And if you never wanted to be taught by a man, that would be okay, because you have a divine Teacher. You have the Holy Spirit.

As for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him.  Now, little children, abide in Him, so that when He appears, we may have confidence and not shrink away from Him in shame at His coming. If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone also who practices righteousness is born of Him.

1 John 2:27‭-‬29 NASB

I baptized you with water; but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”

Mark 1:8 NASB

So understand that you don’t need a man to teach you. All you need is the Holy Spirit to reveal the scriptures to you. So I encourage all of you to lean into God today and ask the Holy Spirit to open your eyes and to teach you. He will give you a teaching with power that will change you as a person. His teaching is eternal and true.
