Limiting God

I find that often, we as Christians can make compromises. We compromise with society. We compromise with the way that the Church functions. And we often make compromises with God. We can often limit God. But if we are honest about what we believe and if we are logically consistent in our beliefs, God has no limitations.

Then Moses said to the Lord , “Please, Lord, I have never been eloquent, neither recently nor in time past, nor since You have spoken to Your servant; for I am slow of speech and slow of tongue.” The Lord said to him, “Who has made man’s mouth? Or who makes him mute or deaf, or seeing or blind? Is it not I, the Lord ? Now then go, and I, even I, will be with your mouth, and teach you what you are to say.”

Exodus 4:10‭-‬12 NASB

So you see, a lot of the time we are like Moses. We push back on the things that God has for us. Maybe it is because we limit God by our own perception of ourselves. We say we can’t, but God says we can. So we shouldn’t limit God by saying he can’t change us, and we shouldn’t limit God by putting him in a box.

How often they provoked Him in the wilderness, And grieved Him in the desert! Yes, again and again they tempted God, And limited the Holy One of Israel. They did not remember His power: The day when He redeemed them from the enemy,

Psalms 78:40‭-‬42 NKJV

This verse is talking about the Israelites when they had left Egypt and were wondering in the wilderness. They were constantly complaining and turning their back on God. They turned there back on God because they didn’t believe in His power and because of that they limited Him. But here is how we must view God. If you believe that God made all of reality and created all things, then you should have no cause to limit Him. If you don’t believe that, then you need to do some soul searching on the Word of God and you need to reach out to your Father.

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

Genesis 1:1 NKJV
