The Veil Torn: Enter into the Holy of Holies

I was reading Exodus again and I came across the verse that talks about the veil that was made to separate the holy place from the holy of holies. Now this holy of holies was where the ark of the covenant was placed in the tabernacle. And this same design was brought into the temple as well. But there was always a veil there to divide the holy place from the holy of holies. And in reading this verse I remembered that something awesome happened at the crucifixion of Christ….. the veil was torn.

And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit. And behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth shook and the rocks were split.

Matthew 27:50‭-‬51 NASB

So there is something very special and also symbolic about the veil being torn at the death of Christ and it has to do with our relationship with God. You see, there was only once a year when the high priest could enter into the Holy of Holies and that was on the Day of Atonement. And he had to be sanctified inorder to enter into the Holy of Holies.

The Lord said to Moses: “ Tell your brother Aaron that he shall not enter at any time into the holy place inside the veil, before the mercy seat which is on the ark, or he will die; for I will appear in the cloud over the mercy seat. Aaron shall enter the holy place with this: with a bull for a sin offering and a ram for a burnt offering. He shall put on the holy linen tunic, and the linen undergarments shall be next to his body, and he shall be girded with the linen sash and attired with the linen turban (these are holy garments). Then he shall bathe his body in water and put them on.

Leviticus 16:2‭-‬4 NASB

So one thing that jumped out to me while reading this passage was that the priest had to do two things besides having a sacrifice done for him. He had to wash his body in water and then put on a set of linen clothes. And in reading this I saw how the Church was also like this.

So then, those who had received his word were baptized; and that day there were added about three thousand souls.

Acts 2:41 NASB

It was given to her to clothe herself in fine linen, bright and clean; for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.

Revelation 19:8 NASB

So we too also wash ourselves in the baptism of water and holy spirit, and we put on the fine linen that is our righteous acts. So it is almost like we as believers are taking part in the cleansing process so that we can enter into the holy of holies. So when the veil was torn at the death of Christ, it was a sign that we now had access to the holy of holies through His sacrifice. So I encourage you guys to go to the holy of holies today in prayer and seek the Father.

Hope you guys enjoyed this blog post and if you did make sure to share it on your social media. Jesus is the way!
