Cut off your Right hand

I was praying and talking to God the other day because I was frustrated about my own lack and falling into temptation. And in asking the Holy Spirit I received a surprising answer. He pointed me to a verse, and it was this one.

If your right hand makes you stumble, cut it off and throw it from you; for it is better for you to lose one of the parts of your body, than for your whole body to go into hell.

Matthew 5:30 NASB

So after this verse popped into my head I realized what was happening to me. I was letting the environment around me control me. I was in essence allowing myself to falling into temptation because my environment was ripe for it. I have the power to change my environment to that of something positive, so I cut off those things that are negative.

Now I am not suggesting that you go off and literally cut your hand off because of some temptation, and I would say that this parable was brought to that level of intensity because of its importance. Part of the Christian life is cutting off the things that cause you to stumble, and by making the example a body part, there truly is nothing that you shouldn’t be able to cut off. There is no excuse. Remember that when you are in your next fight with temptation. If someone, thing, or past time is causing you to stumble, just cut it off.

I hope that you guys enjoyed this blog post and I hope you can use this in your next fight with sin. Jesus is the way!
