Breaking the Bonds: How the Fear of death is Bondage

So I was reading in Hebrews the other day, and I came across a tiny little passage that could be easily missed. But I stopped to really look at this verse and I wanted to show you guys what I got out of it. Let’s check out the verses.

Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and might free those who through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives.

Hebrews 2:14‭-‬15 NASB

So let’s take what is being said here. That Christ came in flesh and blood. And that in His death, He was able to take all the power of death from the devil and He rendered him powerless. And by doing this, Jesus freed those who were slaves to the devil, due to the fear of death. So I ask this question? Are you afraid of death? Jesus has already freed you from this fear. He did that on the cross. And by doing this He has taken the chains off your life. How would you live knowing death meant nothing to you. In fact, death is actually gain. Just as Paul said in Phillipians.

For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. But if I am to live on in the flesh, this will mean fruitful labor for me; and I do not know which to choose. But I am hard-pressed from both directions, having the desire to depart and be with Christ, for that is very much better; yet to remain on in the flesh is more necessary for your sake.

Philippians 1:21‭-‬24 NASB

So if we listen to Paul, this life now is only for gain. To stay here is to bear fruit and store up treasure in Heaven. And to die to go with our Savior, is even better than to stay here. But with that in mind, we have an amazing opportunity right now on Earth to store up heavenly treasures. Treasures that will have an everlasting impact on our lives.

But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal;

Matthew 6:20 NASB

And because of what Christ did for us, we now have a labor that is fruitful. It has given man a purpose to destroy the vainity of life. For the author of Ecclesiastes said that nothing under the sun is worth man’s time, yet God has given us a task that will provide fruit that lasts.

So I hated life, for the work which had been done under the sun was grievous to me; because everything is futility and striving after wind.

Ecclesiastes 2:17 NASB

So I wanted to share this with my Christian brothers and sisters. Jesus has freed us from the fear of death. We shouldn’t be afraid to die, and that is what will make us dangerous to the devil. He can’t control us anymore. I challenge everyone reading this to think how their life would look like if they didn’t fear death. If they lived boldly, and we became soldiers for our Savior Jesus Christ. No more bucket lists, because you don’t care about this life. We have been bought and our life is not our own.

Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.

1 Corinthians 6:19‭-‬20 NASB

Hey guys I hope you enjoyed this post! If you did, make sure to share this on social media and get on the email list to never miss a post. I hope you all really look a those verses in Hebrews and meditate on what that looks like. Living life without the fear of death.
