Proof of Salvation

So I was reading in Phillipians today and I found an awesome passage. But, first I want to ask a question. How do we know we are truly saved? What is the evidence of our salvation? Now there are many things that contribute to the evidence of our faith, there is one that is pointed out in Phillipians that I wanted to show you. And that evidence is persecutions.

Only let your conduct be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of your affairs, that you stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel, and not in any way terrified by your adversaries, which is to them a proof of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that from God. For to you it has been granted on behalf of Christ, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake,

Philippians 1:27‭-‬29 NKJV

So we can see that from this verse persecution is a kind of litmus test for salvation. It is evidence that we actually have been set apart from the world. If you are persecuted because of something you did wrong, then there is no reward, but if you get persecuted because of the Word of God, the Gospel, and living righteously than you have proven your faith.

But even if you should suffer for the sake of righteousness, you are blessed. And do not fear their intimidation, and do not be troubled,

1 Peter 3:14 NASB

So do not be discouraged when persecutions come into your life, but realize that this is part of the war that we have been enlisted in. We are the light of the world and darkness does not want the light to grow. So we need to trust in the promises of the Lord and stand firm in our faith and love for Jesus. We need to bless those who curse us, and love those who hate us. God is just and will provide justice for all.

therefore, we ourselves speak proudly of you among the churches of God for your perseverance and faith in the midst of all your persecutions and afflictions which you endure. This is a plain indication of God’s righteous judgment so that you will be considered worthy of the kingdom of God, for which indeed you are suffering. For after all it is only just for God to repay with affliction those who afflict you, and to give relief to you who are afflicted and to us as well when the Lord Jesus will be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels in flaming fire,

2 Thessalonians 1:4‭-‬7 NASB
