Eyes to See and Ears to Hear
I was reading in Luke yesterday and I came across a passage that I had previously read many times before. But this time I felt the Lord was showing me something different. So I wanted to show you guys what the Lord showed me. But before we start, be thinking about someone else who might need to hear this message. Alright, let’s check it out.
His disciples began questioning Him as to what this parable meant. And He said, “To you it has been granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God, but to the rest it is in parables, so that seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not understand.
Luke 8:9-10 NASB1995
So this verse comes from the book of Luke and it is taken from the passage talking about the parable of the sower. Now we aren’t going to be talking about that parable right now, but we will be talking about this specific verse from the passage. Now the disciples had just heard the parable that Jesus had taught the crowd and they were confused about it. So they came to Him and asked Him to explain the parable. He tells them that they have been chosen to know the mysteries of God, but the crowds would only hear the parable. Now why would Jesus do that? He says that it is so a prophecy would be fulfilled that those who see would actually not see, and those who hear would not understand. That is kind of odd isn’t it. For a teacher to speak in parables to a lot of people, but only share the meaning of them with His close friends. Let’s check out another verse to help us clarify why Jesus is doing this.
And Jesus said, “For judgment I came into this world, so that those who do not see may see, and that those who see may become blind.”
John 9:39 NASB1995
So Jesus says that He came into the world for judgement. But what is this judgement? He says that the judgement is this, that those who do not see would see, and those that do see would become blind. Jesus is actually not talking about literal blindness in a physical sense, but He is talking about a blindness in one’s mind and heart. This is why He only speaks plainly to His disciples, and to the crowd He speaks in parables. This is because the crowd thinks they can see, therefore they do not ask to see. But the discliples acknowledged that they were blind and asked for help. He will make the blind to see, and those who think they see to be blind. So I want you guys to understand that Jesus truly is the way, and that we cannot have understanding without Him. He is the one that brings us into enlightenment because He died to give us the spirit of truth.
But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come.
John 16:13 NASB1995
I hope you guys, enjoyed this post! If you did make sure to share it with your friends and family. I challenge you to connect with God today and ask for understanding in something you are struggling with in the Word. Jesus wants to show you!
