Your Appointment with Jesus

Today I want to talk about how often times in our lives we have appointments with Jesus. But there is a caveat with this appointment. Jesus is looking for you to look for Him. So I bring this up because I found a passage in Luke that is the inspiration of this post. So let’s see what we can learn!

He entered Jericho and was passing through. And there was a man called by the name of Zaccheus; he was a chief tax collector and he was rich. Zaccheus was trying to see who Jesus was, and was unable because of the crowd, for he was small in stature.

Luke 19:1‭-‬3 NASB1995

So the story begins with Jesus coming into the city of Jericho with His disciples. And while He is there, a crowd was formed around Him. Now there was a short tax collector named Zaccheus in the crowd who wanted to see Jesus. Now what he does next is important.

So he ran on ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree in order to see Him, for He was about to pass through that way.

Luke 19:4 NASB1995

When Zaccheus couldn’t see Jesus, he went the extra mile and climbed up a tree to get a better view. We should take note of this, when it seems crowded in life we need to make the extra effort to see Jesus. But let’s continue with the story.

When Jesus came to the place, He looked up and said to him, “Zaccheus, hurry and come down, for today I must stay at your house.”  And he hurried and came down and received Him gladly.

Luke 19:5‭-‬6 NASB1995

So Jesus comes up to the tree and calls out to Zaccheus. What is interesting to me is that the fact that Jesus knew who Zaccheus was. Not only that, but Jesus said that He was supposed to stay at his house. So if Jesus wanted to, He could have just called out to Zaccheus but instead He waited for him to climb up the tree. I think this is very telling when it comes to the personality of Jesus. Sometimes He calls out to us, and other times He is waiting for us to climb up that tree to see Him. I think we need to have that perspective when we feel like we can’t see Him or life is too crowded. Remember that Jesus already knows He is supposed to have an appoinment with you, but He is actually waiting on you.

Hey guys, I hope you enjoyed this blog post. If you did, make sure to share it with friends and family. I challenge all of you to seek Jesus today like Zaccheus did. Thanks for reading. Jesus is the Way!
