I was reading in Zephaniah today and I came across an interesting passage in the first chapter. It can give us a hint into how we can grow stagnant in our faith. Let’s check it out.
It will come about at that time That I will search Jerusalem with lamps, And I will punish the men Who are stagnant in spirit, Who say in their hearts, ‘The Lord will not do good or evil!’Zephaniah 1:12 NASB1995
So this verse is saying that those who are stagnant in spirit are those who say ‘The Lord will not do good or evil’. But what exactly is the connection between the saying, ‘The Lord will not do good or evil’ and being stagnant in spirit? Well, here is what the Lord showed me. A person can start to become stagnant in their walk with God when they start to make God out as passive. When someone says that God is not involved in the situation or in their life, then they become stagnant. And this is because when a person thinks that God is inactive, then they don’t seek Him. They don’t ask for His favor in prayer and they don’t ask for His counsel in their day to day life. This is what it means to be stagnant. When a man thinks that God is stagnant, then they will become stagnant themselves. But we know that God is not stagnant. Let’s look at some verses to show us this truth.
believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.Hebrews 11:6 NASB1995
Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.James 1:17 NASB1995
Lookin at these verses we can see that God is a person who is active and that He rewards those that seek Him. If you have the mentality that He is indifferent to what you do then you will never seek Him in a real way. And that is what He wants you to do. God is not stagnant. Remember that.
Hey guys thanks for reading the blog post. If you took something away from this make sure to share it with friends and family. And if you want to support me you can do that here. Thanks! Jesus is the Way!
