I was in the book of John for my daily reading the other day and I came across and interesting passage in chapter nine that I found very interesting. It had to do with a blind man and it can give us a lot of insight into the problems in the world. Let’s check it out!
As He passed by, He saw a man blind from birth. And His disciples asked Him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he would be born blind?” Jesus answered, “ It was neither that this man sinned, nor his parents; but it was so that the works of God might be displayed in him. We must work the works of Him who sent Me as long as it is day; night is coming when no one can work. While I am in the world, I am the Light of the world.”John 9:1-5 NASB1995
The answer that Jesus gives is a very interesting one. Now, He is basically saying that in this situation, God allowed this man to be born blind for the sole purpose of being healed by Jesus and thus glorifying God. I know that many people reading this will look at it and think, ‘Wow, God is so prideful that He made someone blind and healed them, just so He could get glory.’ And I am sure that in the past I too would have thought it somewhat distasteful that God would put someone through blindness just so He would be glorified. But we have to understand that God doesn’t need you to glorify Him. He has all the glory He wants, but what He doesn’t have is the unbeliever. And if God made a man blind so that the power of God could be shown through Him, then maybe it would be enough for others to be saved. When reading this the Holy Spirit showed me that a lot of our problems are put there for God to fix, not us. The Lord wants you to learn how to rely on Him, not because He wants you to glorify Him but because He wants a relationship with you. God wants to take you and make you fly on the wings of eagles, but He can only do that if you rely on Him. The more we learn to rely on Him, the greater our relationship will be. So ask the Father to help you solve those hard problems in your life. God may have allowed them to be there because He wants to solve them and teach you to trust Him. And maybe you will even come out of it with a testimony that can change someones life. I know that I have impacted people with my testimonies of answered prayer many times.
